The United Nations General Assembly has decided, by Resolution 69/86, to admit Brazil as a member of the Advisory Commission of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Brazil has already been participating as a guest in recent meetings of the Advisory Commission.

The Advisory Commission is UNRWA highest intergovernmental body deciding on the Agency’s main goals and strategies.

In expressing its satisfaction with the decision of the General Assembly, Brazil reiterates its intention to continue to contribute to international efforts to assist the Palestinian refugees, as part of our efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.

The Advisory Commission of UNRWA is composed of 27 members: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Norway, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and Turkey. Palestine, the European Union and the Arab League are observers.
