Dirar Abu Sisi had a central role in the expansion and improvement of Hamas’ rockets arsenal

Dirar Abu Sisi, a top Hamas engineer and tactician was convicted in the Beer Sheva District Court Sunday for his involvement in the infrastructure of the organization’s military wing.

Abu Sisi, who confessed to all of the charges against him, was convicted in founding a Hamas “war college” in which Hamas commanders trained in fighting tactics. Abu Sisi was appointed to the task by senior Hamas commanders Mohammed Deif, who was possibly killed in last summer’s Operation Protective Edge, though his exact fate remains unknown; and Ahmad Jabari, Deif’s then-second-in-command, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2012, which began that year’s Operation Pillar of Defense.

Abu Sisi was also involved in developing Hamas’ arsenal of rockets and mortars, including expanding their range, anti-tank weapons, and other similar tasks.

The Southern District Attorney’s office is expected to request a 21 year prison sentence. Abu Sisi’s guilty plea erased many counts of attempted murder from the charges, leaving him charged with counts that include belonging to a terrorist organization, conspiracy to commit a crime and the unauthorized manufacturing of arms.

Abu Sisi, who holds a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the Academy of Military Engineering in Ukraine, was reportedly kidnapped on February 18th while taking a train to Kyiv. He was reportedly planning to move to Ukraine.
