Jerusalem – A delegation led by Israel Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Yaalon left for China this week in order to meet with high-ranking officials of the Communist government in an attempt to persuade them to sever their connections with Iran.
Governor of the Bank of Israel Professor Stanley Fischer also joins the delegation.
China has economic ties to Tehran, and Israel will try to convince high-ranking administration officials to support the Security Council’s imposition of tougher sanctions against Iran. Mr. Fischer has been recruited for this task as he has had a good relationship with the regime in Beijing since he was a high-ranking official in the International Monetary Fund. Mr. Fischer will try to convince his counterparts that imposing sanctions upon Iran will not harm China financially and that they will be able to find more convenient alternatives.
