Dr. Samil Ahmad al-Hendi, the chairman of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) workers and principal of an elementary school in Gaza, has been chosen for the political bureau of Hamas in Gaza.
The decision has already generated outrage, and al-Hendi has denied the report, which provides proof that UNRWA in the Gaza Strip is run by Hamas. Al-Hendi has threatened to sue those who have reported on his ascent in Hamas for libel.
Al-Hendi has been the head of the 11,500 UNRWA workers since 2012, an organization known to be dominated by Hamas.
Elections were held recently for the political bureau, its highest echelon in Gaza, made up of 15 members, for which the infamous terrorist Yahya Sinwar was appointed chairman, replacing Ismail Haniyeh.
Sinwar, sentenced to life in 1989 for murdering Palestinian collaborators with Israel, spent 22 years in Israeli prisons before being released in the 2011 prisoner exchange deal for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
