780,000 Palestinians living in 19 refugee camps in Palestine’s West Bank region live the holy month of Ramadan in an atmosphere of unemployment, poverty and hunger.
According to figures of the United Nations (UN), one out of every four refugees in the world is Palestinian.
The Palestine issue happens to be the beginning of the most important problem in the Middle East.
The Palestinian refugees at the camps try to survive with aid coupons and materials distributed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Information Director of the UNRWA in Jerusalem, Ilona Kassissieh said that “the temporary state of being refugees began in 1948 for the Palestinians and has entered its 64th year”.
“There is now a fourth generation at the refugee camps. Those living in the camps do not know when the situation may end. The end of the tunnel can not be seen for the Palestinian refugees,” Kassissieh stressed.
The UN spends 74 million USD for the West Bank camps on an annual basis.
Aside from the 19 refugee camps in the West Bank, there are 8 refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.
There are a total of 2.5 million Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
