Dear Editor,

In his oped, https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/12/05/iran-israel-trump-biden-nuclear-deal/ published on December 5, 2020 in the Washington Post, Shapiro defines Israel’s purpose in its war with Iran to “contain” Iran.

“Containment” never works as a strategy with a totalitarian regime, which always strives for total victory

This leaves one to wonder what would have happened if the allies in World War II had worked to “contain” Hitler instead of defeating him.
