David Bedein, director of the Jerusalem-based Israel Resource News Agency as well as the Center for Near East Policy Research, spoke to Arutz Sheva on Sunday about the rampant European Union(EU) funded illegal Arab construction – and revealed Israel is partially to blame.

Much of the illegal EU-funded construction is in Area C of Judea and Samaria, an array of regions designated as being under full Israeli administrative control by the 1994 Oslo Accords, but as Bedein noted other EU-backed illegal building is taking place in Jerusalem.

He said the move stems from an EU decision to recognize all of Judea and Samaria as well as sections of Jerusalem as part of a Palestinian state.

Bedein recalled how back on December 1, 2003, he went to cover the Geneva Initiative peace plan, and found that EU member Graham Watson, who still is a member of the European parliament, was there at the unveiling of the plan.

He noted Watson’s job “is to organize the European strike force, whose purpose is to take over Judea and Samaria together with the Palestinian state militarily.”

At the time Watson told Bedein on the record that “steps would be taken to start building massive building in Judea and Samraia with the Palestinian Authority together with their army,” in comments Bedein published in Makor Rishon and Frontpage Magazine at the time.

The EU has done exactly as Watson said, explained Bedein, who argued it has begun to build a Palestinian army and in addition is building cities for the Palestinian Authority.

Bedein then showed a map from February 2005 “that Israel decided,” which was published on the website of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

The map outlines areas that Israel agreed to cede in February 2005, he explained.

According to Bedein the map was taken “very seriously” by the EU and the IDF Civil Administration.

He warned that not enough people in Israel are aware of the impact of these agreements and the facts on the ground that are being created with the “quiet agreement and approval of the government of Israel.”

In a seeming confirmation of his warning, the government recently quietly approved the EU-funded illegal Arab construction in Area C by telling the Supreme Court it is not a “priority.”
