Last Wednesday, August 15th, Al Hayat Al Jadida, the official newspaper of the Palestinian Authority, carried what the western reader would regard as an unusual news item: A soccer tournament had been held in a Palestinian Authority school in honor of Ziyad Da’as, the terrorist who engineered a machinegun attack at a Bat Mitzvah celebration in Hadera in January 2002, where six people were murdered and more than 30 people were hurt.

Dias was also the terrorist who planned the kidnapping and murder of two Israeli restaurant owners whom he lured to the Arab city of Tulkarem in 2001.

Di’as, a Fatah commander, was killed by Israeli troops in August 2002.

In the wake of an official Palestinian Authority soccer match in a Palestinian Authority school which glorified a man who murdered Jews, the Bulletin dispatched a letter to the US State Department and the Israeli government to ask whether either government would demand that the Palestinian Authority cease and desist from naming future soccer teams for those who murder Jews. Meanwhile, The Bulletin has also asked the the US State Department and the Israeli government if either would demand that that the Palestinian Authority cease and desist from honoring those who murder Jews?

At the same time, the Bulletin asked Assaf Romirowsky, director of the Israel Advocacy Center of the Philadelphia Jewish Federation as to whether the Israel Advocacy Center will ask the US State Department and the Israeli government to demand that the Palestinian Authority cease and desist from naming soccer teams for those who murder Jews. The Bulletin also asked if the Israel Advocacy Center would ask the US State Department and the Israeli gov’t to demand that that the Palestinian Authority cease and desist from honoring those who murder Jews?

The Bulletin awaits responses.

Most recently, the US and Israeli governments renewed their assistance to Fatah-oriented Palestinian Authority schools.

As the Bulletin reported on August 10th, neither the US nor Israel conditioned aid to PA education on a cancellation of the anti-semitisim in the PA school curriculum.
