Kensington, MD – September 12, 2012 – Republican Congressional candidate Ken Timmerman said he will push for a Congressional investigation into the government of Iran’s ties to the 9/11 attacks.

Speaking at a luncheon in New York hosted by the Middle East Forum, the Maryland Suburbanite challenge Timmerman presented a detailed briefing of the facts he and a team of lawyers representing 9/11 victims had uncovered during a seven year investigation that led U.S. District Court Judge George B. Daniels, to rule in favor of the families in December. (A magistrate judge issued a $6.6 billion judgment against the Iranian government in July. The case is Havlish v. Osama bin Laden et al ).

“The 9/11 Commission stated, on page 241 of their report that “further investigation of this matter should be done by the U.S. government,” Timmerman said.

“Until now, this investigation has been done by us, as investigators for the 9/11 families, but not by the government. Now it’s time for Congress to step up to the plate. When elected to Congress, I will push to make sure we set up an investigative panel so the American people can get answers after all these years to these important questions.”

Referring to intelligence documents from 1997 recently released by the Central Intelligence Agency under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to a left-leaning think tank, Timmerman revealed that the CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies had refused to release similar documents to lawyers representing the 9/11 families despite repeated FOIA requests.

“At one point, a CIA operations officer on the staff of the House Permanent Select Committee personally withheld a stack of these documents from his committee chairman,” Timmerman said. “I know this because I spoke with the CIA officer and his boss about this matter.”

Timmerman showed photographs of individuals pretending to work for the CIA who attempted to suborn the testimony of two Iranian defector witnesses by offering them new identities, fresh passports and jobs as a reward for recanting their testimony in the Havlish case.

“This is called witness tampering, and it’s a felony,” Timmerman said. “I want to see the individuals responsible for this brought to account.”

Timmerman’s main affidavit in the Havlish case, which lays out the history of Iran’s ties to al Qaeda as well as specific evidence obtained from the defector witnesses, is available online at iran911case.com. Sworn statements from other witnesses, including senior staff members of the 9/11 Commission, are also available online.

The overwhelming body of evidence presented in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York last year, led Judge Daniels to issue a bench ruling in favor of the Havlish plaintiffs at the end of the evidentiary hearing on Dec. 15, 2011.

“It’s time for the American people to learn what we learned – and more,” Timmerman said. “We need to know exactly what the U.S. government knew before 9/11, about Iran’s involvement with al Qaeda, and why they failed to act on that information.”

Timmerman spent the morning of the Sept 11 commemoration at Ground Zero in Manhattan with Fiona Havlish, the lead plaintiff in the Iran-9/11 case. Together, Havlish and Timmerman joined lead investigative attorney, Timothy B. Fleming, at the Middle East Forum luncheon, where Timmerman delivered his presentation.

Timmerman and Havlish also visited the “Garden of Remembrance” in Yardley, Pennsylvania for a candlelight memorial service along with Ellen Saracini, the widow of Victor Saracini, the pilot of United Airlines flight 175; Thomas E. Mellon, Jr., the lead attorney in the Iran-9/11 case; 9/11 family members from the area; and over two thousand sympathizers.

“Emotions are still raw for many of the 9/11 families, but I pledged to family members today that when I am elected to Congress, I will spearhead a Congressional investigation into Iran’s ties to the 9/11 plot – so the families, and all Americans, can finally learn the full truth about the Islamic terror syndicate based in Tehran and their war on America,” Timmerman said.

Timmerman for Congress

Ken Timmerman is a nationally recognized investigative reporter who was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in 2006 along with John Bolton for the work he has done to expose Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Ambassador Bolton and a team of our nation’s most senior national security officials have endorsed Ken in Maryland’s new 8th District in his race to defeat the top Democrat spender in Congress, Rep. Chris Van Hollen. Ken is also a witness to the persecuted church, and has written a book about the Christians of Iraq based on recent trips to Mosul and Amman, Jordan. For the past seven years, Ken has been the lead investigator for families of 9/11 victims in a civil lawsuit against Iran. Based on Ken’s evidence, a federal district judge ruled just before Christmas that Iran “shared responsibility” for the 9/11 terrorist attacks with al Qaeda, and had provided “direct, material support” for the attacks. As former president of the Maryland Taxpayers Association, Ken has been a strong advocate for Maryland citizens. He urged the adoption — back in 2000 — of a Return-the-Surplus- Amendment. Ken was also at the forefront of the Divest Terror movement along with Delegate Don George, to prevent Maryland pension funds from being invested in companies doing business with terrorists.
