BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — A senior Fatah official said that Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal’s speech in Gaza on Saturday was “very positive.”

Azzam al-Ahmad told Ma’an that Mashaal’s speech reflected the contents a reconciliation deal between the parties that fell apart last year.

“In order to implement this, we should quickly activate the work of the election commission which was stopped in July,” al-Ahmad said.

Egypt will invite factions to meet over the reconciliation deal, but the parties were waiting until after the Hamas anniversary celebration on Saturday.
