“A two-state solution with strong security protections remains the only
viable alternative. And for anybody who thinks otherwise, you can measure
what unitary looks like by just looking at what’s been going on in the last
weeks.”
Secretary of State John Kerry Remarks at the Carnegie Endowment for
International Peace October 28, 2015
Let’s set aside whether or not a “two-state solution with strong security
protections” is a reckless fantasy.
Mr. Kerry threatens us that “what’s been going on in the last weeks” is
representative of what we will experience in the future in the absence of
the “two-state solution with strong security protections”
Let’s tale a look at murder statistics.
According to FBI data, in 2013 there were 16,037 incidents of murder and
nonnegligent manslaughter in the USA – and given the U.S. population of
285,317,559 this comes to 5.6 per hundred thousand.
According to Israel Police data, in 2014 there were 127 incidents of murder
and nonnegligent manslaughter – and given the population of Israel of 8.2
million this comes to a rate of less than 1.6 per hundred thousand.
So we could have another 332 murders a year here in Israel to reach the
murder rate in the United States. That’s almost another murder a day.
“What’s been going on in the last weeks” has been a few knifings a day –
almost all the people dying are the Palestinian knifers.
Bottom line: Mr. Kerry is telling us that in the absence of a “two-state
solution with strong security protections” it is still going to be
considerably less life-threatening to walk around in Israel than in the
United States.
Oops!
By the way, Mr. Kerry declines to consider the outcome of a failed
“two-state solution”.
“Give peace a chance” may be a nice lyric for a song but its profoundly
reckless not to consider the possible downside of that “chance”.
And in this case, the downside of that “chance” is a terror state in our
bedroom armed to the teeth and creating an environment that life is
miserable. There is zero tourism, only Israeli airlines fly to Israel
because the rest don’t want to risk having their planes shot down and the
official in Mr. Kerry’s job is warning us that we should show restraint,
understanding and avoid measures that “humiliate” the Palestinians….
