Merav Michaeli, a member of the Knesset, will be visiting Australia this month addressing communal events in Melbourne and Sydney.
She will also address the Zionist Federation of Australia’s (ZFA) plenary in Canberra. Whilst in Canberra, she is expected to meet with politicians from all sides of Australian politics.
Michaeli, is being brought to Australia by Habonim Dror and Ameinu Australia who are holding the events – on September 13 in Sydney and September 17 in Melbourne.
A former journalist, TV and radio personality she is renowned for her activism and pushing boundaries on topics from gender to the peace progress. Prior to her election, Michaeli was a senior journalist, regularly publishing opinion pieces and interviews for Haaretz.
Michaeli was involved in the establishment of the Galgalatz and Radio Tel-Aviv radio stations and has lectured at universities and colleges on media and gender.
For over 20 years, Michaeli has been involved in feminist activism, seeking to promote women and equal rights for women. She also strives to promote the rights of minorities, worker rights and the promotion of peace.
In 1997, Michaeli founded Ezrat Nashim, to promote assistance centers for victims and survivors of sexual assault. She is member of the executive committee of the Israel Peace Initiative and a member of the directorate of the Israel Women’s Network.
Michaeli’s parliamentary activity is extensive, covering a range of sectors: society and economy, gender equality, religion and state, LBGT rights, worker rights and promotion of the peace process. Merav is part of the Zionist Camp, sometimes called Zionist Union.
She is due to appear on television on ABC’s Q&A on Monday 11 September.
