Prior to the commencement of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games last week, Israel’s detractors around the world called for a boycott or ban on the Israeli team’s participation and threatened the French hosts. Leading up to the games, protests against Israeli athletes took place in the streets as well as online, with Israeli athletes receiving 24-hour police protection.

Propaganda images circulated on social media portray Israeli athletes as orchestrators of genocide and crimes against humanity in the Israel-Hamas war, accusing them of infanticide and showing the Eiffel Tower and the Olympic rings dripping in blood.

Also circulating on social media are:

    • Photoshopped or AI-generated images show members of the Israeli swimming team covered in blood
    • Images from Iranian and Yemeni-backed show Paris streets filled with blood, implying that the Olympics is stained with the blood of 14,000 murdered Gazan children
    • Accusations of Israel of covering up war crimes by participating in the Olympics
    • The Israeli football team portrayed as a team of menacing rats with blazing red eyes
    • Israelis as supporters of genocide with no difference between a Zionist in the Olympics and a Zionist in Gaza
    • Hashtags such as #BanIsraelFromOlympics used to further spread insidious and dangerous content

The Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Research Department has been tracking and reporting this anti-Semitic, anti-Israel hate and demanding that these dangerous, inciteful posts be removed immediately.
