Potemkin propaganda

From the Palestinians to Stalin to China, leftists still fall for the concealment of unspeakable crimes.

(JNS / Jewish Journal) us last month tried to persuade Massachusetts congressman Seth Moulton that China is not persecuting its Muslim Uyghur minority. They urged him to visit Uyghur regions “and see how happy people were there,” one of Moulton’s aides told The New York Times.

Two years ago, the U.S. State Department determined that the Chinese government is carrying out “ongoing genocide” against the Uyghurs, including slave labor, torture, forced sterilizations and the imprisonment of “more than one million civilians.”

If Rep. Moulton does visit China, government officials no doubt will carefully keep him from seeing the truth about the “reeducation” camps where Uyghurs are being held.

Hiding embarrassing sights from the view of foreign dignitaries is a tactic dictators have been using for centuries. Its pioneer was Grigory Alexandrovich Potemkin, a Russian cabinet minister who reportedly built fake villages to impress the Czarina Catherine II during her visit to the Crimea region in 1787.

Some historians believe Potemkin merely redecorated towns along the czarina’s route, rather than fabricating them entirely for the sole purpose of the visit. Either way, Potemkin’s name has come to be associated with this particular kind of deceit.

Soviet dictator Josef Stalin was a master of Potemkinism. In the 1920s and 1930s, Western visitors to the USSR were taken to see Bolshevo, which was presented as an example of the Soviet Union’s “progressive” prisons without walls or guards, where criminals were educated and inspired to become productive citizens.

Nobel laureate George Bernard Shaw went so far as to claim that the only problem in dealing with the typical Soviet prisoner was “inducing him to come out at all” when his jail term ended. In reality, Bolshevo had been created to impress foreigners. It was populated largely by informers whose reward was to live in the sham prison. The slave labor camps of the Soviet gulag remained hidden from foreign eyes.

Adolf Hitler used Potemkin-style deception to help camouflage the mass murder of the Jews. In June 1944, the Nazis invited a delegation from the International Red Cross to visit Theresienstadt, the Jewish ghetto they created in Czechoslovakia as a transit point for Jews being shipped to the gas chambers in Auschwitz. In the Nazi Potemkin version, the camp was presented as an Endlager, a final destination where Jewish prisoners lived happily.

One inmate wrote in his diary of the Nazis’ preparations for the Red Cross visit: “They rain down order after order. Kindergarten children are to sing during the visit, the workers are to return home. Plays and cultural events and sporting activities must take place. Even the few lambs left here roam about on the grass around the city. The children, the workers, the sheep—a perfect idyll.”

Another prisoner recalled: “A playground was laid out with sandboxes and swings, a ‘children’s pavilion’ was built and painted from inside with big wooden animals as toys. Behind a glass veranda you could see a dozen cribs. It was like a story book—but children were only allowed to enter this little paradise on the day the commission visited Theresienstadt.” Houses were freshly painted, but only those portions that the Red Cross inspectors would see as they walked by.

The delegation’s final report to Red Cross headquarters described conditions in the camp as “relatively good.” They never asked why the population of Theresienstadt at the time of the visit was 30,000 less than what the Red Cross knew it had been a few weeks earlier.

In the 1950s, the North Korean government built a village called Kijong-dong in the demilitarized zone separating North Korea from South Korea. To this day, the North Koreans call it a “peace village” and claim it is inhabited by two hundred families. In fact, Kjong-dong has no civilian residents. It houses soldiers, artillery and underground bunkers.

A Washington Post correspondent who visited the area in 1998 reported that “if you squint through your binoculars, you’ll see that the buildings [in Kjong-dong] don’t even have glass in the windows. It’s a lie, a huge Potemkin village.” The sidewalks are empty, and automatic timers turn lights on and off in the buildings in order to create the illusion that people reside there.

The Palestinian Authority has engaged in its own forms of Potemkin-style deception. When President Barack Obama visited Bethlehem in 2013, P.A. officials temporarily removed a large sculpture showing a map with all of Israel as “Palestine,” which the president would have seen as his motorcade approached the city. For the occasion, the sculpture was replaced with a monument of a dove.

Likewise, when United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon was scheduled to visit the Al-Zeitoun School in Gaza in 2017, Hamas officials quickly covered up a large map showing all of Israel as “Palestine.”

The Germans wanted to hide the mass murder of the Jews for fear that the international community might intervene. The Soviets hoped to improve trade relations with the West and promote communism as the ideal system of government. The North Koreans are trying to disguise military activity in what is supposed to be a demilitarized zone. The P.A. and Hamas do not want any negative publicity that could jeopardize the international assistance they receive.

And if China, with the help of allies such as Code Pink, ever entices members of Congress to visit, we can expect its government to practice its own particular version of Potemkinism to hide what it is doing to the Uyghurs.

Barry is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of June 2023, Barry’s LinkedIn profile said she was a “Data Scientist.” As of the same date, Barry’s Twitter bio said she was a “Scientist.”

As of June 2023, Barry’s LinkedIn said she graduated from the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine (JHUSOM) with a master’s of science in “Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology” in 2020. Barry was also a graduate research assistant at JHUSOM from August 2017 to December 2020.

In April 2021, Barry tweeted: “It’s been ~3.5 months since I left 🧠 myPhD program at Johns Hopkins.” On May 31, 2023, Barry tweeted that she was “unceremoniously fired from my PhD program at Johns Hopkins just a few months out from graduation.”

As of June 2023, Barry’s LinkedIn said she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 2017. While studying at UT Austin, Barry was a research ambassador from August 2016 to May 2017 and an undergraduate researcher from May 2014 to May 2017.

As of June 2023, Barry went by the username “Bree B.” and used the handle “@KGBreeB” on Twitter.

Holocaust Revisionism

On October 28, 2022, Barry tweeted: “Jews were not exterminated because they were Jewish. They were exterminated because times were very hard, and Jewish people, alongside many others, were scapegoated. Watch your backs. [18/18].”

“Holocaust revisionism” is a form of anti-Semitism where proponents deny or minimize key aspects of the Holocaust.

On December 22, 2022, Barry tweeted: “The number of German Jews killed in the Holocaust is comparable to the number of German Jews who fought for Nazis in WWII. Both numbers are less than the number of Americans who died in WWII…”

On January 27, 2023, Barry tweeted: “…half of Germany’s Jews were Nazis, & they marched into Poland with their fellow fascists & murdered millions.”

Anti-Semitism

On April 4, 2023, Barry tweeted: “A topic I’ve discussed at length in recent years is that the modern fight against anti-semitism actually *is* anti-semitism. World Jewry is an enormously wealthy and powerful lobby with specific self interest that wields the word ‘Jew’ for political gain, including against Jews.”

On January 13, 2023, Barry tweeted: “If you want a master class in how elites operate in the US & beyond, look no further than the exclusionary tactics of Judaism and modern world Jewry. You don’t go from the Holocaust to Forbes’ lists in 70 years by accident. In truth, Hitler selectively exterminated the poor. 9/9.”

On November 15, 2022, Barry tweeted in support of a quote attributed to American actor Marlon Brando that read: “Hollywood is run by Jews; it is owned by Jews–and they should have a greater sensitivity about the issue of people who are suffering. Because…we have seen…the greaseball, we’ve seen the Chink, we’ve seen the slit-eyed dangerous Jap, we have seen the wily Filipino, we’ve seen everything but we never saw the kike. Because they knew perfectly well that that’s where you draw [line].”

Kike is an anti-Semitic slur referring to a Jewish person.

On October 30, 2022, Barry tweeted about when she first got to JHU, writing: “All I knew about ‘Jews’ was that they faced extermination in the Holocaust, have forced Palestinians to face extermination via Israel, and that they have some sort of protected status in the US because of ‘anti-semitism.’…”

Equating Israel with Nazi Germany

On April 16, 2023, Barry tweeted: “…the Israeli gov’t is a far-right, fascist gov’t that has presided over Palestinian concentration camps since its inception…”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Thirty-four other countries have adopted the definition as well.

Also on April 16, 2023, Barry also tweeted in the same thread: “…Israel appears to be in the initial stages of a Final Solution plan. No exaggeration. I mean this literally.” The Nazis called their planned mass murder of Jews: “The Final Solution to the Jewish Question.”

Barry concluded the thread by writing: “Much like the Soviet Union held back nothing against Germany’s Final Solution, so too must Palestine fight Israel…”

On December 14, 2022, Barry tweeted: “I finally put all the pieces together yesterday: Israelis & Palestinians are Canaanites. The Hebrew Bible is the founding myth of Israel, in which the ancient Israelites genocided the other peoples of Canaan. Except they didn’t… until now. Zionism is Jewish National Socialism [Nazism].”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

On October 13, 2022, Barry tweeted: “With Israel’s concentration camps for Palestinians, racialized segregation among its own Jewish citizens, and flourishing Apartheid South African community, the Jewish alliance with racism continues to run its course.”

Terror Support (Hamas)

On December 14, 2022, Barry tweeted: “AP [Associated Press] has reported that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians 🇵🇸 attended the 35th anniversary rally in Gaza for Hamas… #FreePalestine.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organizationby the European Union, Canada, Australia, Japan, Paraguay, the U.S., Israel and the United Kingdom. Founded in 1987, it has carried out suicide bombings and rocket attacks against civilian targets, wounding and killing thousands of Israelis.

On October 28, 2021, Barry tweeted: “Is there a way for me to donate to Hamas.” In the same thread, Barry tweeted two days later: “If it helps, I’m open to supporting them in other ways as well. 😇.”

On July 22, 2021, Barry tweeted: “The devil finds work for idle hands. Perhaps Hamas has been too easy on Israel, if Israel has the time to interfere with western democracy and subvert the free market.”
On May 16, 2021, in response to Israel bombing a high-rise building in Gaza that was used as a base for Hamas operations, Barry tweeted: “There is absolutely no evidence of Hamas ever using the building. Israel asserted their claim without ever providing evidence, & Israel *still* hasn’t provided any evidence.”
The building was also used by the Al Jazeera Media Network and other major news outlets. The Israeli military warned the building’s tenants to vacate the premises one hour before the attack, which was part of Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against terrorists in Gaza.

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 14, 2021, Barry tweeted: “The US calls Hamas a ‘terrorist organization’ because Hamas resists Israel’s genocidal campaign. Palestine is a sovereign state, and Hamas is a security & social services force recognized by the UN. Hamas is fighting to save Palestinians from total extermination.”

Hatred of Israel and Zionists

On March 21, 2023, Barry tweeted: “I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Zionism is treason.”

On March 7, 2023, Barry wrote a tweet claiming that Israel trains “US police to become fascistic killers…”

The accusation that Israeli law enforcement teaches American police brutal tactics during police exchange programs is used to demonize Israel. Participants in these programshave stated [00:02:14] that the training in Israel focuses [00:13:36] on public policy, counter-terrorism and leadership training in the form of lectures and discussions.

On December 24, 2022, Barry tweeted: “American Zionists should be classified as enemies of the United States, barred from public office, and charged with treason.”

On the same date, Barry tweeted in the same thread: “Israeli apartheid is exalted & protected by US officials.”

On the same date, Barry tweeted in the same thread: “Our taxes, soldiers, and defense resources are used to destabilize the world against America’s interests. Our gov’t is overrun by Zionists. It’s high time that we the people reaffirmed our own character, forged our own identity, and envisioned our own future. Zionism must go.”

On November 27, 2022, Barry tweeted: “If the terrorist state of Israel is ever to fall, we must prepare for global consequences. Israel is committing a genocide against Palestinians, but that’s not all they do. The US military and NATO, for ex, depend upon Israeli manufacturing, intelligence, & cyber infrastructure.”

On April 7, 2022, Barry tweeted: “Zionism is a state of Jewish supremacy. I’ve read the manifestos of early Zionist leaders and radical Jewish terrorists. I’ve read chapter after chapter of the Bible and the Talmud. Zionism is genocide. To ask someone facing extinction how the murderers will go on is inhuman.”

The Talmud is a fundamental text of Rabbinic Judaism and a primary source of Jewish religious law and Jewish theology.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.

Special update: Arab terror, this time in Binyamin

In an appeal to fairness, Jewish residents have asked friends to get updated and know the true story. This is just one in a long line of attacks against Jews, in an ongoing effort to instill fear in the hearts of Israelis. Murder for politics. Hate and anti-Israel terror.

We want to help ask questions and get you real answers.

To combat distortion, we share some details that are overlooked or omitted.

We invite you to read the incident as properly reported upon here, and share the same.

Best,

Sarah, Ruth and Avi and the Yes! Israel team

This, from Governor Israel Ganz:

And more – Personal accounts of Jewish residents in the area, give a different picture from that portrayed in many biased media reports:

The regional council personnel responding to the attack, reported: “Serious incident two nights ago in Binyamin: Dozens of rioting Arabs from the village of Burka, carrying stones, iron bars and large firecrackers attacked and seriously injured a group of Jewish shepherds and local residents who came to their aid. One of the residents sustained serious head injuries, and was taken to hospital, where he needed surgery. He is currently in the ICU at Shaare Zedek, recovering from the operation, and is suffering from cerebral hemorrhaging and fractures to his skull. At his bedside are policemen from the Central Investigative Unit of the Judea and Samaria division.

It began when a Jewish shepherd who lives in the Oz Zion neighborhood was tending his flock in a field in Area C, Israeli state land, between Oz Zion and Burka, near his neighborhood. Several Arabs approached him and threatened him. At that point the shepherd, who felt his life was in danger, called a few Oz Zion residents, who arrived to be with him and to prevent the deterioration of the situation. Suddenly dozens of Arabs, armed with rocks, iron bars and large firecrackers swarmed around them and attacked the Israelis, threatening their very lives. The Israelis called the security forces and civilian forces for assistance.

The Arab rioters hurled large firecrackers directly at the Israelis and through rocks at them from point blank range. That was when one of the Israelis was hit in the head by a rock and seriously injured. With the last ounce of this strength he managed to defend himself with his handgun, for which he has a license.

The injured Jewish man was carried away by his friends, who called an ambulance that met them on the nearby road. The man was taken to Shaare Zedek hospital in serious condition, where he underwent surgery that night, and is now recovering in the ICU. Some media reports state that in firing his handgun to defend himself, he shot and killed one of the Arabs who were attacking him. Throughout his stay in the hospital, there are policemen from the Central Investigative Unit of the Judea and Samaria division. Late Friday evening the police arrested another Israeli resident of Oz Zion, who was at the incident and had helped evacuate the injured man to the hospital, under investigation.

Attorney Nati Rom of the Honenu legal aid organization was called on Saturday, during the Sabbath, to assist in the legal defense of the injured man in the hospital, and on Saturday night said, “This is a miracle. My client was seriously injured. He is only alive now thanks to a miracle and the resourcefulness of his friends. At the hospital I met a young civilian who was seriously injured after a horrific terror attack against him and his friends by hundreds of rioting Arabs. I call on the Shabak security forces and the police to find these Arab rioters immediately, and put them behind bars. This is attempted murder against a group of Jews, literally like a lynching. My client acted according to the law, and as required by anyone who carries a licensed personal weapon – to defend himself and the lives of other civilians.”

Verbal pollution

One of the blights plaguing humanity these days is the increasing pollution which is causing ecological damage to our oceans and poisoning the air we breathe.

There are, unfortunately, additional forms of pollution that result in short and long-term casualties.

Jews throughout history have been the targets of these vile verbal assaults, and since the re-establishment of Jewish sovereignty in their ancient homeland, the intensity and frequency has ratcheted up to epidemic proportions.

One of the unique features of this phenomenon is the way that it manifests its potency in the verbal utterances of Jews who feel that their mission in life is to denigrate, criticize and condemn each and every act that Israel may or may not do.

We have always been afflicted with self-loathers who have delighted in joining forces with those who wish us ill. With the rise of social media, their presence has become so much more malignant.

It seems that almost everyone nowadays has an urge to pontificate. It has become so prevalent that one wonders whether there are any other problems in the world or whether Israel is the sole threat to peace and security.

This past week has provided a perfect example of the polluted atmosphere now prevailing.

One would think that with all its accumulating domestic problems and threats to world peace increasing by the day, the Biden Administration’s priorities might somehow reflect these looming crises.

No such luck is evident, however, as every “Tom, Dick and Harry” instead feels compelled to denounce, comment and interfere in Israel’s domestic affairs.

The sight of Jews building homes in places that have seen a Jewish sovereign presence for two millennia produces convulsions.

Apparently, visiting the Temple Mount on Tisha B’Av, Judaism’s national day of mourning for the destruction of both Temples, is anathema and poses such a serious threat that it calls for condemnation. In the face of Islamic threats, Jews are pilloried for having the audacity to visit their holiest site and forbidden to utter any prayers there. Instead of calling out and denouncing the hypocrisy emanating from those who are religious freedom abusers, the US blames Jews. Ignored and shamefully swept under the carpet is the fact that those who today lie and incite that the settlers are “storming” the Al Aqsa Mosque are the very same people who barred Jews from the Kotel from 1948 to 1967.

One could perhaps expect that our own politicians and diplomats might expose this ongoing scandalous situation but seemingly, this is another case of not making waves. The end result, of course, is that the media, with their collection of anti-Israel commentators, have a field day in disseminating misinformation.

The continuing mayhem over judicial reforms is another example of interference in Israel’s internal affairs. You can imagine the uproar which would ensue if Israeli officials were to comment and disapprove of each and every domestic move taken by the US or European Governments. Righteous indignation over the chutzpa of Israeli interference would be overwhelming. Yet, when the same suspects meddle in our local disputes, apparently, that carries a kosher stamp of international approval.

A favourite mantra is “the inalienable rights of the Palestinians.” This is rammed down our collective throats at every opportunity. What you won’t hear are their “inalienable obligations.” These include a cessation of fabricating a fake Palestinian history, recognizing the Jewish legal claim to their ancestral homeland, eliminating hate and incitement from their media and school books and actually putting in place some semblance of democratic governance. It also means respecting human rights, tolerance towards non-Islamic faiths and eliminating the permanent refugee status of millions of their own long-suffering people. International aid should not be used to pay terrorists and their families and building terror tunnels. Palestinian Arab obligations should also mean giving up on any idea of eliminating a Jewish presence.

We would all be much better off if Biden, the EU and the UN were to concentrate their focus on these elementary threats to peace instead of obsessing about Israel every minute of the day.

Apparently, there are approximately ten thousand Israelis currently residing in Berlin. Whatever reason they may have to make Germany their home it certainly is not to seek a better and more meaningful Jewish life. Salaries may be higher, the nightclubs may be livelier and cottage cheese cheaper but beneath the surface there are clear signs that sooner rather than later the ancient virus of hate will once again break forth. It is already percolating but just as pre-war Jews preferred to ignore it until it was too late, today’s Jewish locals and Israeli expats prefer to concentrate on the perceived good life in the resurrected fatherland.

The mutated hate which now targets Israel is an endemic disease for which there is no cure. It is, therefore with incredulity that a news report revealed that the Israeli Ambassador to Germany was evicted from a Berlin café. The most amazing revelation is that the owner of the café is an Israeli expat who now calls Germany his home. The ostensible reason given by this man, according to the report, was

“Because he represents Israel, and since he implements an invalid and manipulative policy, which claims that any criticism of Israel is antisemitic.”

In other words, this ex-lover of Zion cannot stand the obvious fact that holding Israel to a standard no other country is expected to live up to, is not somehow a sign that irrational hate is present. An Israeli banning the Israeli Ambassador is about as low as one can get. Doing this in the German Capital of all places is an incredible act of self-loathing which unfortunately seems to be a common trait of many these days.

In the not-so-distant past there were signs in German shop windows that proclaimed “no dogs or Jews allowed.” It is a symptom of the sickness afflicting those suffering from historical amnesia that this disgraceful behaviour did not seem to evoke any public outrage by the media or even members of Parliament who are usually so proactive in attacking Israel.

The other day I came across a news item that perfectly encapsulates the double standards we face these days.

It seems that the United Kingdom Government was very upset that the European Union had referred in a report to the Malvinas instead of calling it the Falkland Islands. By using this terminology the EU implied that these British-occupied islands were actually Argentinean, which in reality is what they are. After a vigorous protest from the UK Foreign Office the EU rapidly backtracked.

Think about this for a moment.

Judea and Samaria are referred to by the international community as the “occupied West Bank.” We all know what this implies, especially as the big lie has become the accepted narrative of historical revisionists. Nothing it seems, can induce the UN to reverse itself.

On the other hand, faster than the speed of sound, the EU reverses its “mistaken” description of the occupied Falklands and its British settlers.

Do you discern a glaring inconsistency between these two situations?

The Falklands were seized by the British from Argentina in 1833, and the Argentineans living there at the time were expelled. Judea and Samaria has had a Jewish sovereign presence since Biblical times and is part of the territory allocated by the San Remo Agreement for Jewish settlement.

Who has the better legal claim?

It shouldn’t be too difficult to work out.

3,600-plus Palestinian terror attacks in first half of 2023

The escalation in Palestinian terrorism that started over a year ago shows no signs of abating, data from Rescuers Without Borders (Hatzalah Judea and Samaria) published on Tuesday indicates.

In the first six months of 2023, the emergency service recorded 3,640 acts of terror throughout Israel, including 2,118 cases of rock-throwing, 799 attacks with Molotov cocktails, 18 attempted stabbings and six car-rammings.

The number of shootings has already surpassed last year’s total, with 101 instances of gunfire directed at Israelis reported. Hatzalah’s figures do not include the hundreds of attacks on security personnel during counterterrorism operations in Palestinian villages.

Palestinian terrorists have killed 28 people and wounded 362 others since January, the organization said.

In addition, two Israelis died from wounded sustained in previous years. Shimon Maatuf died in February after suffering severe head wounds in an attack by two Palestinians armed with axes in 2022, and New York-born Chana Nachenberg died last month after a Palestinian suicide bombing put her in a coma 22 years ago.

Rescuers Without Borders was founded in 2000, at the beginning of the Second Intifada, with the goal of establishing a civilian emergency response infrastructure in Judea and Samaria. Eventually, the organization expanded the scope of its work to include all of Israel.

Hatzalah released its biannual report on terrorism amid yet another uptick in Arab attacks throughout Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

Earlier on Tuesday, security forces thwarted a possible terrorist attack at the Shuafat checkpoint in northeastern Jerusalem, arresting a 14-year-old Palestinian suspect who behaved suspiciously. Officers found a knife in his possession.

On Monday, Palestinian terrorists threw rocks at vehicles in northern Samaria, wounding at least four Israeli civilians, including a woman in an advanced stage of pregnancy. At least three cars were targeted in the attack, which took place on Route 55 near Ma’ale Shomron, medical officials said.

A day earlier, an Israeli man was shot and seriously wounded, and his two daughters lightly injured, in a Palestinian drive-by shooting near the Tekoa Junction in Gush Etzion. According to the IDF, the terrorist opened fire from a passing vehicle at the victims’ car on a highway about 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Jerusalem.

Following an hours-long manhunt, security forces apprehended the suspected shooter in nearby Bethlehem, where he had barricaded himself inside a mosque.

This is what Israel should offer Saudi Arabia

What’s clear about the American led effort to bring about a rapprochement between Israel and Saudi Arabia is that it has a secondary agenda that aims to undermine not only our G-d given claim to Judea and Samaria, but also our right to implement democratically endorsed domestic policies that run counter to the government’s leftist Opposition.

To accomplish these objectives the American diplomatic plan requires several Israeli concessions, which would essentially require the nullification of our last election. The concessions include our “meaningful” endorsement of a Palestinian state, and the corresponding termination of our settlement enterprise.

Given the composition of our current government, any territorial concessions, particularly those leading to the creation of a Palestinian state, would require a new National Unity government, whose creation would require the replacement of Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich with Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid.

Apart from facilitating the wholesale surrender of our Biblical heartland, this new coalition would also spell the end of any judicial reform for the foreseeable future. The American sweetener for this nightmare would, of course, be the inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords.

How has our government responded to this extremely hostile American diplomatic offensive? Not by ruling out such horrendous and outrageous concessions, but by attempting to facilitate it with humiliating appeals to the opposition to join a ‘national unity’ government in exchange for postponing any further judicial reform efforts. More shocking, is the government’s refusal to explicitly rule out the creation of a Palestinian state dedicated to the eventual destruction of Israel.

What the Prime Minister seems oblivious to is the fact that Saudi Arabia would be willing to settle for far less from Israel in order to obtain what it wants from the Americans. The Saudis don’t love the Palestinians so much that they would be willing to loose an American defense agreement and all the high tech arms that would flow from that, just because the Arab “street” demands the creation of a Palestinian state.

Instead, Israel should quietly offer the Saudis a defense pact of its own that would probably be more credible than anything the Biden administration would offer. Although the acceptance of such a deal might jeopardize the recently agreed rapprochement between Riyadh and Tehran, we should at least offer it up in place of the Israeli concessions demanded by Washington. And who knows? The Saudis just might go for it.
