Al Manara Square in Ramallah
Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon and ministry CEO Major General (Res.) Yossi Kooperwasser presented the government with the “incitement index” on Sunday.
The index aims to gauge hostility towards Israel among the Palestinian public and recent findings show that the incitement in the Palestinian Authority against Israel is escalating.
Commenting on the data, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said: “I see two important things in this index. The first is that it represents a significant clarification and reminder as to the region where we live. We usually wait for crises to transpire in order to be reminded of our environment.
“The index sheds some light and helps us prepare and refrain from making mistakes stemming from failing to understand the element we deal with, which cooperates and initiates this appalling incitement.
“The Palestinian leadership is bequeathing this incitement to future generations, and preventing them from transitioning to a discourse of peace. As a result, it cannot transition to such a discourse itself,” he said.
“The second value,” Netanyahu continued, “Is in reminding the world that the conflict stems from the Palestinian refusal to recognize the very existence of Israel as the Jewish state.
“We have witnessed many horrible things that… accuse the Jews of difficult and vicious acts. We must bring this to the attention of all the governments of the world, especially as we approach the coming session of the UN assembly.”
