Yes – Netanyahu Relies on Pressure

Here is the scenario:

Step #1 Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu balks at doing “x” out of concern for international repercussions.

Step #2: Either a coalition partner or senior Likud members cause a crises because “x” isn’t taking place.

Step #3: A compromise “x” is implemented.

Step #4: The international ramifications of implementing compromise “x” are inconsequential.

Which leads to the obvious question: if it was possible to implement compromise “x” without any serious diplomatic cost, why didn’t Mr. Netanyahu simply do it in the first place?

I would suggest that in the absence of the domestic political crises that the international ramifications of implementing compromise “x” might be graver.

Those coalition partners and senior Likud members causing a crises aren’t acting against Prime Minister Netanyahu – they are in fact helping him.

Binyamin Netanyahu has the vision to recognize that.

But I’m not sure that some of those around him do.
