In terms of what is occurring now, I have flashbacks to the 1968 school teachers strike in NYC.
Then at the University of Wisconsion in Madison ,we had a Hillel Rabbi named Richard Winograd, of blessed memory, whose credibility with the civil rights movement was pristine.
He was one of the Rabbis who marched with Martin Luther King in Selma, Alabama, and was close to the US civil rights leadership,
When vicious lies and rumor mongering began to characterize the sudden anti semitic Black protest, Rabbi Winograd said something which has stayed with me ever since:
“Stand with their rights and stand up to their lies”.
In other words, Black Lies Matter.
